Review – “Fever Crumb” by Philip Reeve

Fever CrumbFever Crumb by Philip Reeve
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

In this Steampunk novel a child (Fever) is found and raised by an “Engineer”(Dr. Crumb), a group of men who eschew physical pleasures and emotions as being ‘irrational’. She grows up in this ‘rational’ environment but soon encounters irrational events that reveal her past and a surprising secret about her.
This book blended serious with subtle humor. At one point Fever goes into the city and encounters a group chanting “Hari, Hari, Hari Potter” small things like that come up often and are pretty funny. I’m hoping this is the first of a series, it was just published in 2009 so it may be awhile before I find out.
